Insta Empire Episode 731 – I Hope This Thing Has Airbags

After crash landing on the moon, Mario evacuated first and ran off with extra spacesuits. Fortunately, Kevin found a spare suit in the life pod and used it to retrieve two more suits from a nearby space station for Mason and Katja. Once everyone was safe, they explored the space station and found a lunar rover which guided them to their next destination, a deadly racetrack that they had to complete in order to advance.

All right, everyone, hang on tight! Kevin took a deep breath and shifted the rover into third gear. Before pushing his foot against the pedal, Kevin looked up and saw another rover flying down a huge drop, approaching a tall loop. As the rover curved up the loop, it lost its momentum and fell at the top.

From where they were parked, Kevin, Mason, and Katja could hear the contestants screaming as they plummeted to the ground. Katja turned to Kevin with a serious expression. We don’t want that to happen to us.

Kevin, it’s going to be scary, but no matter what, you can’t slow down. You have to keep us going at a fast speed. Kevin nodded.

Let’s see how fast this thing can really go. Ready? Ready. Kevin slammed his foot on the pedal and the rover shot forward.

They went up the first ramp at 80 miles per hour, glided through the air, and landed on the other side with a thud. The next leg of the course began with a jaw-dropping descent down a steep crater wall. The rover’s wheels locked into a special mode designed for lunar gravity, providing ample traction as Kevin guided it down the dangerous slope.

The drop was so steep that it felt like the rover was falling into a hole. Mason’s heart dropped into his stomach. Are you sure we aren’t going too fast? Kevin laughed and pushed his foot harder against the pedal.

Just close your eyes, Mason. Pretend it’s a roller coaster. Mason covered his eyes and tried not to throw up.

At the base of the crater, the course led into a series of tight twists and turns, with rocky outcrops and massive boulders strategically placed to test Kevin’s driving skills. He smoothly threaded the rover through the maze-like path, narrowly avoiding collisions with the unforgiving lunar terrain. After dropping down another steep hill, the rover was approaching its first loop.

Katja tightened her grip and shouted, This is it, Kevin! Step on it! Kevin shifted the rover into fourth gear and slammed his foot all the way down. As they curved up the side of the loop, the rover was going atop speed. Without slowing an inch, the rover curved upside down and swooped back over along the other side of the loop.

But that wasn’t all. Immediately after the first loop came a second, then a third, one right after another. The moon’s low gravity made these loops both exhilarating and disorienting, but Kevin’s focus never wavered.

Meanwhile, Mason was turning green. I think I’m gonna be sick! As Kevin exited the loops, the course became even more frightening. A network of narrow bridges arched over wide chasms and there was no room for error.

One false move and the rover would fall into the moon’s cold darkness. Kevin navigated the bridges with skill, his heartbeat echoing in his ears. As they crossed one of the bridges, Katja looked down and saw the wreck of a fallen rover a hundred feet below.

Doesn’t look like everyone made it out of here. Be careful, Kevin. Kevin took a sharp turn and crossed over the final bridge.

Don’t worry, I’ve always been a very careful driver. Next up was a colossal jump off a ramp that sent the rover soaring into the air. Kevin felt weightless as the rover left the moon’s surface, floating in space like magic.

But then, instead of falling back down, the rover slowly started to rise. Mason’s eyes flooded with panic. Um, guys, why are we going the wrong way? Kevin nervously looked around for a solution as the rover floated higher and higher like a lost balloon.

We lost the moon’s gravitational pull and are falling out of the atmosphere. Look around, there’s gotta be a propulsion system or something. Katja saw a button with the outline of a flame on the top and pressed it without thinking.

Suddenly, a pair of jets fired underneath the rover, forcing it even further upward. Katja gasped. Oh god, that’s not right.

I’m sorry. Mason shook his head. At least our obituaries will say lost in space.

That’s pretty exotic. No, they won’t. Not if I can help it.

Kevin reached over to the button Katja pushed and turned it like a knob. Once it was pointing down, the jets swung up to the top of the rover and pushed it downward. After they re-entered the moon’s atmosphere, gravity reclaimed its hold and the rover touched down on the other side of the track with a bone-jarring thud.

As Kevin brought the rover back up to speed, Katja heaved a sigh of relief. Well, that’s about as close to the suffocating void of space as I’d ever like to get. Kevin laughed.

Really? I thought it was exhilarating. Mason shook his head. I’m with Katja on this one.

That’s enough space for me. Suddenly, the track came to an end in front of a crater filled with jagged rocks and boulders. Looking ahead, Kevin could see the track pick up on the other side.

In between, it seemed nearly impossible to get across. Hold on, folks. Looks like it’s time for a little off-road action.

Kevin revved the rover’s engines and, with nerves of steel, charged straight into the jumble of rocks. The rover bounced and jolted over the uneven terrain, rocks clattering against its reinforced body. Kevin expertly steered through the maze of hazards, narrowly avoiding disaster with each passing second.

After passing over a boulder, the rover bounced up and bucked Mason into the air. Jolted out of his seat, he landed on the rover’s rear end, holding onto its frame for dear life. Whatever you do, keep it steady.

As Kevin continued to weave between rocks, Katja jumped into the back seat and pulled Mason back aboard. Thanks. Don’t mention it.

For every ten times I rescue you, the next one is free, like a punch card. Finally, the last leg of the course presented a dizzying series of tight spirals that wound through a lunar canyon. Kevin could feel the G-forces tugging at him as he guided the rover through the spirals, and he fought against the dizzying sensation.

As the rover burst out of the spirals and onto the home stretch, Kevin knew he was almost there. The finish line loomed ahead half a mile off the road marked by a pair of enormous lunar flags, flapping in the moon’s thin atmosphere. This is it, guys.

We’re almost there. With a burst of speed, he accelerated toward the finish, the lunar rover’s wheels kicking up lunar dust in its wake. The crowd back on Earth watched in awe via the live feed, cheering as Kevin approached the finish line.

Watching from his home in Chicago, Ethan, who had helped Mario plot against Kevin, looked at the live footage and scoffed. So what if they beat the track? They’re still in last place. They don’t stand a chance at catching up with Mario and the others.

And then, with a final surge of power, Kevin and his friends crossed the finish line. The lunar rover skidded to a halt, its tires sending moon dust up into the air. Lily and Rachel jumped to their feet and cheered, accidentally spilling their popcorn all over the couch.

Way to go, Kevin. I knew you could do it. Back on the moon, a bright green check mark appeared on the rover’s GPS screen and the robot voice said, Congratulations, you successfully completed the course.

Now downloading your next destination. The GPS mini-map zoomed so far out that the moon became a pale white dot. Then, jumping over 250 million miles away, a little flag appeared on the surface of Mars.

Kevin’s jaw dropped. We’re going to Mars? How are we supposed to get there? Our ship was destroyed in the crash. Katja touched the screen and guided the mini-map back to the moon.

Maybe there’s another space station where we can find a rocket. Scrolling over the moon’s surface on the mini-map, Katja stopped and pointed when she found another building. There.

What do you think? Should we check it out? Kevin nodded. It’s worth a shot. As they sped towards the second space station, they suddenly heard a loud roar that shook the ground.

Ahead on the horizon, there was a huge explosion of fire and smoke, and when Kevin looked up, he saw a rocket blasting out of the atmosphere. Mason gulped. Well, let’s just hope that wasn’t the last one.

When they reached the station, Kevin saw Mario shaking his fist at the sky. You little brats. When we get back to Earth, I’ll make you regret leaving me behind like this.

Kevin stepped down to the rover and crossed his arms with a sarcastic grin. Can’t say I blame them, Mario. It’s a long way to Mars.

I wouldn’t want to be trapped in there with you, either. Mario looked over and frowned. That was the last rocket.

You know what that means? We’re all stranded. Mason’s jaw dropped. The last rocket?
